This Southern Theater signature event features world premieres from six of the Twin Cities' finest dancers and recipients of the 2008 and 2009 McKnight Artist Fellowships for Dancers. As part of their awarded fellowship, the Southern Theater has commissioned a choreographer of each dancer's choosing to create a new work expressly for them.

"The SOLO Commissioning Program is an unusual opportunity for our fellows-and is unique in the dance world at large-because it puts the dancer in the driver's seat," said McKnight Fellowship Program Director Mary Ellen Childs. "They get to choose the choreographer. Many of the dancers tell us it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and it can be a profound, even life-changing, experience."

"Over the last 8 years we've commissioned two dozen new solo works for our dance fellows from choreographers from Minnesota to New York to Europe, Japan and Africa," added Childs. "It's an opportunity for us to feature some of our community's most riveting dancers in brand new work created specifically for their talents and interests."
