Strife, love, class conflict, murder and canned peas - Luverne Seifert, Carl Flink, special guest advisor Michael Sommers and the movers of Black Label Movement (BLM) collide to reimagine the interior of the Southern Theater as the tangled mind of Georg Büchner, author of the play Woyzeck. In this untelling of the tale of a soldier's fight to maintain his sanity and love, audience members will travel independently through a dramatically transformed Southern to create their own story in a harrowing and surreal landscape inspired by this seminal German play.
"A cast of 35 dancers and actors will transform the Southern Theater into a visual, aural and aromatic den of discovery," said Seifert. "Around every corner of the entire building the story of Woyzeck will unfold through dioramas, disturbing installations and poetic cascades of moving bodies."
"This all-star collaboration will inspire, disturb and challenge the norm," added Southern Theater curator Jon Ferguson. "It marks an incredibly exciting and ground-breaking event on the Twin Cities performance calendar."Phone, video and camera use encouraged during all performances. BLM has created a facebook page on which audience members and the project's artists can post rehearsal and performance videos, still images and comments to literally document their individual Woyzeck Project story, challenging the notion of when the performance begins and ends. The facebook page can be accessed by becoming a fan of Black Label Movement.Videos
