The Bloomington Civic Theatre & The Bloomington Art Center Announce Merger

By: Jul. 02, 2009

The Bloomington Civic Theatre (BCT) and the Bloomington Art Center (BAC) are excited to announce their merger has become official as of today.

The theatre issued a statement saying "While talk of a merger began over six months ago, we have been working closely together since our move into the new Bloomington Center for the Arts in 2003. A shared respect for each other's missions and programs helped bring our organizations together, ultimately into discussions about how to unite. We believe that merging will allow the BAC and BCT to expand and enhance our exhibitions, productions and classes as we become more streamline and efficient in our operations.

Our merged organization will be known as Bloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC), but our programs will continue to operate as Bloomington Civic Theatre and Bloomington Art Center until we have a chance to develop a new name and image. A search for an executive director will begin in July. Until that person is on board, Kathleen Corley will serve as interim director. Kathleen is working with both the board and staff to make this a smooth transition for you, our patrons and clients.

We hope that you will be excited as we combine our years of providing quality art programs and services to our community. The emerging organization will draw on more than 87 years of artistic classes, performances and exhibitions that you have had at your fingertips - over 160 live theater productions, 96 exhibits, and an annual education calendar filled with classes and workshops in every media taught by working artists."
