The Stinky Cheese Man by Kent Stephens with Music by Gary Rue. Based on the popular book by Jon Scieszka July 9 August 1, 2010

A classic offbeat tale full of frenzied fun, SteppingStone Theatre's production of The Stinky Cheese Man is the perfect summer theatre experience for young and old alike.

When a little old man and a little old woman want a child, they make one out of cheese! Add olives for eyes, and a strip of bacon for the mouth, and bake for an hour and you get a stinky friend for life. The play is based on Jon Scieszka¹s popular book, and commissioned by SteppingStone¹s Artistic Director Richard Hitchler. Playwright Kent Stephens has kept the joy of the original, but renewed it with fresh enthusiasm and magic.

As Richard Hitchler says, The Stinky Cheese Man is a playful and witty takeoff of traditional fairy tales told the very same way that children enjoy telling stories. It is a perfect introduction to the world of theatre through imagination, storytelling, and familiar characters. Parents love this story as much as their children.

Hitchler goes on to say, "We commissioned the play back in 1998, and since then it has really taken on a life of its own. We¹ve been proud and excited to see our creation performed around the country. A few years ago, it was even performed in Shanghai, China!"

SteppingStone Theatre¹s productions are professionally created and produced, with talents drawn from the best in the Twin Cities and throughout the U.S. The young actors are rigorously trained, but remain fresh and vibrant, bringing their joy and sense of fun to all SteppingStone's productions. Enjoyed by all ages, adults as well as children, SteppingStone's productions are affordable, high-quality entertainment.
