Second SpotLight Cabaret Held At Fine Line Cafe 8/22

Hennepin Theatre Trust's new and ongoing SpotLight Cabaret Series continues with "Croon and Swoon," showcasing vignettes of love and betrayal set to tunes from the era famous for Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. The second event will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 22 at the Fine Line Café (18 North 1st Avenue, Minneapolis, 55401). This cabaret series highlights outstanding Minnesota high school students from the Trust's SpotLight Musical Theatre Program (see attached list of involved students). The August 22 event will include 13 students from Centennial (Circle Pines), Eagan, Eastview (Apple Valley), Hill-Murray (Maplewood), Minnetonka, St. Francis and Wayzata High School.
The participating students producing and performing musical theatre include Minnetonka High School graduate Ryan McCartan, named Best Actor at the 2011 National Musical Theatre Awards held in New York in June. The SpotLight Cabaret Series is open to the public and tickets can be purchased for $10 each online at HennepinTheatreTrust.org or in person at the Fine Line Café. The next cabaret will be held in October. Visit our website at HennepinTheatreTrust.org.The SpotLight Cabaret Series is a hands-on performing experience open to all participants in the SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. Actors have worked with local theatre professionals and Broadway touring cast members including Ali Ewoldt from West Side Story. Technical students, including lighting, sound engineers or set designers, also participate.Hennepin Theatre Trust's SpotLight Musical Theatre Program supports the work of Minnesota high schools that present musical theatre. During the 2010-11 school year, 47 schools participated throughout the state. The yearlong experience culminates in the annual SpotLight Showcase, a professionally produced evening combining student performances and awards held at the Orpheum Theatre.
