Ordway Adds SISTER'S CHRISTMAS CATECHISM: THE MYSTERY OF THE MAGI'S GOLD To New Season, Runs 11/24 - 12/27

By:

Ordway adds a new show to its strong 2009-2010 season with “Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold,” which will run November 24 – December 27, 2009 on the McKnight Theatre stage and feature Kim Richards as Sister.

If the traditional holiday productions fail to kindle the holiday spirit, “Sister’s Christmas Catechism” is guaranteed to deliver, with hysterical audience interaction, musical highlights, wacky prizes, non-stop laughs and the irrepressible, irresistible Sister.

Forensic tools in hand, Sister seeks to discover the culprit who made off with the gold coins and left Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus in that lousy stable without any chance to upgrade to a suite. In this search to find the Magi’s Gold, Sister employs techniques from her favorite TV show, “Forensic Files” and creates a living nativity using audience members dressed as the Holy Family, magi, shepherds, sheep, cattle…and, of course, an ass.  She sets the stage for the crime by directing a local choir in songs of the season.  The Audience will judge whether her unconventional investigation methods help her solve the long-held mystery.

“We are ecstatic about luring Sister back to the Twin Cities,” says Ordway’s Producing Artistic Director, James Rocco.  “There has been way too much gum chewing and tardiness in the theater. We all need this shot of adrenalin, especially at Xmas…I mean Christmas.”

Richards returns to the Ordway McKnight Theatre after her smashing 2006 engagement in “Late Night Catechism 2.”  She became an instant success and soon Sister was a local celebrity ministering to retired nuns by day and singing in blues joints by night.  A former Vegas showgirl, Richards now dedicates her life to spreading Catechism throughout the United States and Mexico.

Maripat Donovan, the creator and author of “Late Nite Catechism” and “Late Nite Catechism 2,” offers a hilarious storyline. “Sister’s Christmas Catechism” is bound to give audiences an interactive holiday experience they will never forget.

The Ordway is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading not-for-profit performing arts centers and Saint Paul’s most elegant and inviting performance space.
