Minneapolis Musical Theatre Presents MURDER BALLAD

By:
Minneapolis Musical Theatre (MMT) kicks off their 24th season with a "concert staging" of the Off-Broadway musical hit Murder Ballad at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater (810 W Lake St, Minneapolis) October 2nd, 9th and 16th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $16 and can be purchased by visiting www.aboutmmt.org or calling the box office at (612) 825?8949.
Murder Ballad follows a love triangle gone horribly wrong, while a mysterious narrator looks on. This sung-through musical earned both an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical and a Drama League Award nomination for Outstanding Production of a Musical.
The original production took place in an actual bar, with the actors performing among the tables and on the bar top itself. Taking inspiration from that treatment, MMT will present this edgy show as a rock concert, with the four actors fronting a live band in the intimate theater at the Bryant-Lake Bowl.
The show features local performers Aly Westberg as Sarah, Daniel Lundin as Tom, Christian Unser as Michael and Rebecca Gebhart as The Narrator. The show is musically directed by Anthony Sofie, with instrumentation provided by Paul David Stanko, Will Roberts and Alex Maiers.
"One of the first MMT shows I saw took place at the Bryant-Lake Bowl," says MMT's new Artistic Director Christian Unser. "I'm thrilled to bring the company back to this location, with an intimate production that wouldn't necessarily work as well in a larger space."
"I've been a fan of this show since the first time I heard it," Unser continues, "and I'm exciting to bring it to a Twin Cities audience in such an affordable, up-close and personal way."
Tickets for Murder Ballad are $16 and can be purchased online at www.aboutmmt.org or through the Bryant-Lake Bowl box office at (612) 825-8949 or by visiting www.bryantlakebowl.com/theater.

Upcoming Productions:
Continuing our 2015-2016 season, MMT will present SILENCE! The Musical at the Lab Theater (700 North 1st Street, Minneapolis) in partnership with MMT co-founder and former Artistic Director Steven Meerdink from February 12th through March 6th, 2016. The show is a musical parody of the movie The Silence of the Lambs and is intended for mature audiences only. SILENCE! broke box-office records at the 2005 FringeNYC Festival.
And coming up this spring, MMT presents the Broadway musical Leap of Faith in partnership with Hennepin Theatre Trust from April 29th to May 22nd, 2016 at the New Century Theatre (615 Hennepin Ave #145, Minneapolis). The show will also feature members of the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir during each production. It is directed by a newcomer to MMT, Sara Pillatzki-Warzeha.
Minneapolis Musical Theatre is committed to providing access for the community to musical rarely or never performed locally, having produced 30 area premieres over the last two decades. For more information about these productions as well as a special Season Subscription price to see all three shows during our 2015-2016 season for just $60, visit www.aboutmmt.org.
