Bob Dylan, the celebrated Minnesota singer-songwriter-musician, will be the next prestigious artist honored by the Minnesota Walk of Fame, a new, ongoing initiative to recognize Minnesotans who have earned national and international acclaim in the entertainment industry. Starting at 8 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 15 at the Dakota Jazz Club, located at 1010 Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis, is a Hennepin Theatre Trust-hosted musical tribute celebrating Dylan's inclusion in the Minnesota Walk of Fame.
Bob Dylan grew up in Duluth and Hibbing and attended the University of Minnesota before leaving to pursue a prolific and highly influential musical career that led to Academy and Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, among many, many other honors. Performing at his Minnesota Walk of Fame tribute will be national and local musicians with ties to Dylan including Ramblin' Jack Elliott, whose mastery of Woody Guthrie material had a significant early impact, singer Maria Muldaur, who recorded a CD of his songs and performs at the Dakota on Oct. 14, and violinist Scarlet Rivera, who met Dylan in New York and worked with him on various recordings. They will be joined by Twin Cities' singer-songwriters "Spider" John Koerner and Gene LaFond. Bob Dylan and his brother David Zimmerman were also former owners of the Orpheum Theatre.Tickets for the Minnesota Walk of Fame Bob Dylan tribute are $40 ($10 will support the Minnesota Walk of Fame).
