Homeless Youth Meet Magical Realism in Upcoming Queer Tragedy

By:

An unflinchingly accurate look at the reality of youth homelessness, sexual abuse, and queer identity, with an unexpected touch of romance and magical realism. ?JorDan Matthews would be fine, if her mother could hold down a decent job, or if her mother hadn't been arrested on another DUI, or if her mother's boyfriend wasn't a skeevy bastard. But things aren't fine, and Jordan's life is falling apart. The adults in her life are either impotent or uninterested, and the only solace comes from out of the blue.

And Then They Fell by Tira Palmquist is a tragic look at the reality that homeless youth face and how that often directly impacts queer youth and victims of abuse however, it does have some quirks and some laughs. This exceptional cast features Mindy Vang (she/hers) from She Kills Monsters as Jordan. Adele Bolier (they/theirs) from SPCPA is a relative newcomer to professional theatre but excited to join us for this show as Jordan's would be boyfriend, Cal. Troy Stolp (he/him) who has worked all over the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs is making his Gadfly onstage debut as Dwayne, the skeevy bastard. Rounding out this cast is Kjertina Whiting (they/theirs) who's most recently been seen performing at Huge Theater and Starla Larson (she/hers) who read for us in our Crown of the Holly Queenstaged reading this past December. Both Whiting and Larson play multiple roles that shape how the principal characters see the world they've been unexpectedly thrust into. This incredibly solid cast is the perfect ensemble to tell this important, sometimes fun, ultimately sad story.

Incorporated with this show, we are so, so beyond excited to welcome community partners Sexual Violence Center and Avenues for Homeless Youth. Reps from both will be at all shows and talkbacks, and they'll have lots of info about joining them either as a client or a volunteer. We will also be doing a goods drive for Avenues, so start rounding up any unused beauty and hygiene products, clean clothes in good condition, menstrual products, etc.

Shows will be at the Fox Egg Gallery on March 17-19th and 24th-26th, all shows at 7:30 PM except Sunday matinees, which are at 3:00 PM. Tickets to And Then They Fell are $15 in advance and $20 at the door for a regular show, and features two Pay-What-You-Can performances on Sunday matinees where advance purchase through Brown Paper Tickets will be possible. Please e-mailgadflytheatre@gmail.com for more ticket information.
