Hennepin Theatre Trusts State Theatre Screens 'nobody' 10/1

The world premiere of the independent film "nobody," a charming, quirky comedy about discovery and identity will screen at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at Hennepin Theatre Trust's State Theatre, 805 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis. The comedy was co-written and directed by Minneapolis resident Rob Perez (writer of "40 Days and 40 Nights"). Ryan Miller, front man of Guster, co-wrote the script and composed the score.

The film stars Minnesota-native Sam Rosen in his debut as a leading man. The film was set andshot exclusively in and around the Twin Cities. St. Paul native Josh Hartnett is the executiveproducer. Tickets go on sale Sunday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m.

"nobody" is about Lindeman (Sam Rosen), a sculptor in his last semester at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Lindeman is stuck on his final project, a two ton block of granite. Heneeds to be inspired, but the problem is-where do you look for inspiration? He tries the Gothscene, the gay scene, the vegan revolution scene. He tries falling in love, becoming one withmother nature, and passing himself off as an intellectual. But in the end Lindeman just mightrealize that flying under the radar, being nobody, has its perks. With a tag line of "maybe youdon't have to be somebody to be someone," "nobody" is connecting with audiences in their teens and earlytwenties who are themselves trying to figure out what it means to be someone.

Perez has previewed the film ata handful of Twin Cities' high schools and colleges to enthusiastic audience response. "nobody" features the talented Sam Rosen who is from Minneapolis and whose local theatre credits include Craig Wright's Molly's Delicious at the Jungle Theater and Edward Albee's The Play About the Baby at Eye ofthe Storm Theatre. Currently living in Brooklyn, Rosen's New York stage credits include Soho Playhouse's Ham Lake, which he co-wrote with Nat Bennett, and Lucy Thurber's Stay at the Rattlestick Theatre.

He was recently seen in Tobacco Road at La Jolla Playhouse and has appeared on "Law and Order: Criminal Intent"and in the films "Revolutionary Road," "Four Boxes" and "Break Upwards." "nobody's" cast also showcasesMark Margolis, Bonnie Somerville and Beth Riesgraf and highlights appearances by Twin Cities' actorsincluding Emily Gunyou Hallas, Nathan Shrake, Ryan Lindberg and Tyler Jensen. "nobody" features manyTwin Cities' locales such as MCAD, Porky's, the Minneapolis skyline, the chain of lakes and the UptownLibrary.Rob Perez (co-writer, director), a Texas native who attended NYU's Dramatic Writing Program and USC'sFilmic Writing Program, has worked extensively in Hollywood including a year exclusively with director RidleyScott. He has written scripts for Universal, Miramax, Warner Brothers, Working Title Films and others. His firstproduced script, "40 Days and 40 Nights," stars Josh Hartnett and was released in 2001. "nobody" marks hisdirectorial debut.

Ryan Miller (co-writer, composer, co-music supervisor), has been the front man for the band Guster since1991. Guster has shared the stage with Bob Dylan and 638 other artists in its 18-year career. "nobody" marksMiller's debut as a composer and music supervisor.Perez and Miller conceived "nobody" while Guster was recording in an L.A. studio, with Perez agreeingto help Miller with a screenplay and Miller agreeing to collaborate on a record with Perez. The two honed thescript when both went on tour with Guster.

Perez secured independent financing in Minnesota, including support from Dean Phillips of Phillips Distilling Company. The 22-day shoot took place in Summer 2008 andwas completed in Spring 2009.Producers include Damien Saccani, who was previously president of production at Color Force, a companywithin DreamWorks. Saccani worked on Universal films including "Jarhead," "Serenity" and "Charlie Wilson's War," and "Elf" for Disney. Christine Kunewa Walker also produced. Walker, an award-winning producer,recently completed "Forgiveness" by Todd Solondz, produced "Factotum" starring Matt Dillon and MarisaTomei (also filmed in Minneapolis) and "American Splendor," which won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in2003. Executive producers are popular film and television actor Josh Hartnett, a St. Paul native, and Elizabeth Redleaf, who recently completed production on "Forgiveness," founded and co-chairs The Walker Art CenterFilm Society with Bill Pohlad and serves on the IFP Minnesota Advisory Board.

Costume designer LauraMorgan has worked with designers Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan as well as for Madonna and for Vanity Fair, American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar magazines. Editor Dan Padgett has worked closely with Ivan Reitmanon "Dave" and "Junior," as well as with Wes Anderson on "Rushmore," "The Royal Tennebaums" and "The LifeAquatic with Steve Zissou.""nobody" will open on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Kerasotes Block E Stadium 15 Theatre,600 Hennepin Ave., in downtown Minneapolis.
