To sum up this whole post in one sentence: I absolutely adore my school district’s arts program and the opportunities and love it has given me.

I’ve been blessed to be involved in our theatre department since middle school. When I started in theatre, there were a total of five shows per year. But recently, our district’s theatre program has merged with our recreation department, giving us access to do more shows with more budget and accessibility for our students. Currently, our program has three high school productions (two musicals and a straight play), three middle school productions (two musicals and a straight play), a secondary summer musical, and an elementary summer musical. All productions offer opportunities on stage crew for students, and the two high school musicals give students from both high schools the opportunity to perform in the pit orchestra. I am beyond amazed with how much our program has grown since I started as a little sixth grader. Now as a senior, I’m able to look back and see how much I’ve learned from our staff and how lucky I am to have been a part of making our theatre department one of the best there is. You can read a whole lot more about my favorite program in the world here!

And of course, the basis of theatre - music. I have been involved in music since the first day I stepped into our district. Music was always my favorite subject in elementary school, and I couldn’t wait to join band in fifth grade. Seven years later, little elementary flute player Victoria is drum major of her high school band and has been a section leader since sophomore year. Never in my life at age eleven did I expect to completely fall in love with music and my instrument, but here we are!

Our full district music program has been nationally recognized for outstanding music education (see more here!), which is something I will brag about to anyone I can. Our music teachers are beyond qualified, most of whom have performed professionally and have extensive knowledge that they pass down to their students on a daily basis.

I am so grateful for our arts program, and I can only hope this blog post gives it an ounce of the recognition it deserves!
