Wayne State University Department of Music presents its 52nd Annual Salute to Greater Detroit Concert

Wayne State University's Department of Music is proud to present its 52nd Annual Salute to Greater Detroit concert on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. as part of its Centennial Series celebrating 100 years of the department. The concert will be held at St. Ambrose Church, 15020 Hampton in Grosse Pointe Park. This annual WSU concert, celebrating Detroit's rich cultural heritage, is free and open to the public. The department is part of Wayne State's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.

This year's concert will feature the Wayne State University Symphonic Chorus and University Symphony Orchestra, performing Francis Poulenc's Gloria conducted by Wayne State Orchestra Conductor, Kypros Markou. The Department of Music is honored to welcome back alumna and renowned soprano Jacqueline Echols (B.M. in Vocal Performance, '03) who will join the Symphonic Chorus as soprano soloist. The concert will also feature the Concert Chorale, directed by Alex Sutton, in a performance of Tarik O'Regan's Triptych and the University Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Sinfonia No. 4 in F Major by William Boyce and Finlandia, Op. 26, No. 7 by Jean Sibelius.

The annual Salute concerts, founded by the late Malcolm Johns in 1967, originally were designated as "Thanksgiving" concerts and have grown to be an institution treasured by Wayne State and the Metropolitan Detroit Community.
