THE BOY WHO CRIED to Play Slipstream Theater

By:

Mental illness is explored in a creative way in London based playwright Matthew Osman's The Boy Who Cried. We are taken to an alternate world where werewolves are very real and mental illness is the stuff of fantasy. A string of disappearances has the community on edge and a werewolf is suspected. Enter Sam Elvin- a boy who has been acting oddly and withdrawn. His mother, fearing the worst, calls the government to help her son and what follows will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Puzzle Piece Theatre is proud to bring this deeply imaginative play to metro Detroit in its American premiere. The production will run from October 9th through 25th at the brand new Slipstream Theater located at 460 Hilton in Ferndale, MI 48220. Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 2pm. Tickets are $20 by advanced reservation only and can be purchased at www.puzzlestage.org or reserved for will-call by calling 313-258-3885.

The play debuted in London in the Spring of 2014 to critical acclaim. TimeOut said at the time, "werewolves and absurdism together in this imaginative, blackly comic look at alienation and our fear of what might be lurking inside other people...When its claws are out, it's fiercely original and sharply funny."

The Puzzle Piece productions features the talents of Julie Fuller as Mrs. Elvin, Sergio Mautone as the Protection Officer, and Joshua Palmer as Sam Elvin. Rounding out the cast are Vincent Sabatini and Joseph Sfair as the trainee officers Spencer and Talbot. The production is stage managed by Laura Heikkinen and directed by D.B. Schroeder.

Following each production will be a talk-back with the cast and creative team about the issues raised in the play and the process of bringing this story to life.
