Puzzle Piece Explores Faith, Innocence, and Suffering with AGNES OF GOD
Agnes of God by John Pielmeier gets a provocative revival courtesy of Puzzle Piece Theatre April 29 - May 15.
Court appointed psychiatrist, Martha Livingstone, is called to a Catholic convent when a newborn infant is found dead in a wastepaper basket. The suspect is Agnes, a young nun, and the baby's mother. In spite of strong resistance from the convent and its Mother Superior, Livingstone must determine if Agnes is mentally fit to stand trial for murder. But just what happened -- who killed the infant, who is the child's father and why is Mother Superior so fiercely protective of Agnes?
Mr. Pielmeier's provocative script navigates the murky waters of faith, suffering and modern day miracles-- and explores the notion that some questions may simply be unanswerable.
Agnes of God runs from April 29 - May 15 2016 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. The show is directed by Puzzle Piece's Associate Artistic Director, Laura Heikkinen and the cast features Detroit theatre regulars Connie Cowper and Mandy Logsdon, and newcomer Bryana Hall. All performances take place at 460 Hilton in Ferndale. Tickets are $20 by advanced reservation and can be purchased at www.puzzlestage.org or held for will-call by emailing info@puzzlestage.org or calling 248-291-7188.
