Oakland University Presents SPRING AWAKENING, 11/8-18
The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance at Oakland University will present the provocative and popular, Tony Award-winning rock and roll musical "Spring Awakening" beginning on Thursday, Nov. 8, and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 18.
A powerful celebration of youth and rebellion, the show focuses on a group of young people as they struggle with the thrilling, complicated and confusing time of their sexual awakening, all against a repressive 19th-century German background. It's an alluringly melancholy story of self-discovery and coming-of-age anxiety.
The production will feature the work of the student actors and designers from Oakland University's theatre program under the direction of Associate Professor Fred Love.
"We are not just replicating the Broadway show," Love said. "This is going to be a re-imagining."
The production can be seen in Varner Studio Theatre in Varner Hall, which is surrounded by ample free parking. Interactive and printable maps of the Oakland University campus are available at oakland.edu/map.
"Spring Awakening" contains mature themes, brief nudity, sexual situations and strong language. It is not suitable for children under the age of 17.
Tickets are $18 for general admission and $10 for students and attendees of a 10 a.m. matinee on Friday, Nov. 16. A performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, will be shadow signed by TerpTheatre. Tickets for all shows can be purchased online, by phone at (248) 370-3013 or in person on campus. There are no service fees for advanced ticket purchases. Complete ticket information is available at oakland.edu/tickets.
