Oakland University Dance Concerts Kick Off Tonight

At 7:30 pm tonight, Dec. 3, Oakland Dance Theatre and Oakland University Repertory Dance Company will give the first of four performances showcasing the work of OU's dance students during the fall 2015 semester.

The dancers will present works choreographed by OU dance faculty and guest artists Stephanie Martinez and Teresa Muller, as well a piece by Pascal Merighi (sponsored by The Judd Family Endowed Foundation), which was set on OU dancers studying German Contemporary Dance in Berlin last summer.

The concert will also include members of the professional company Eisenhower Dance performing "Catharsis,"choreographed byLaurie Eisenhower, alongside the Repertory Company dancers.

The OU Dance Program provides innovative, high-standard training and elite opportunities which prepare students to transition to dance professionals. Recent alumni are working around the country, including in New York, California, Chicago and Texas.

Oakland Dance Theatre, under the direction of Christina Tasco, and Oakland University Repertory Dance Company, under the direction of Thayer Jonutz, will also perform on Friday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The performances are in Varner Recital Hall, which is located on the Oakland University campus. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smartphone. Ample free parking will be available.

Tickets for the concert are $14 for general seating and $8 for students. They may be purchased online without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Varner Box Office on OU's campus. Tickets ordered online or by phone can be picked up at the box office one hour before the performance begins.
