In the tradition of nabbing up-and-coming artists, the Oakland University Student Program Board will present the Verge Campus Tour, sponsored by Karmaloop clothing company, with lyrical genius Kendrick Lamar and world-renowned DJ Steve Aoki.

The show will open with an eclectic blend of techno, pop and funk music from the bands Bad Rabbits and 5 & a Dime.

Compton-born artist Lamar has been recognized for his most recent album titled "good kid, m.A.A.d city," which includes his top hit "Swimming Pools (Drank)." Compared to legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, Lamar was named Lyricist of the Year this fall at the BET Hip Hop Awards.

Multi-talented DJ and record producer Steve Aoki has remixed songs from artists such as Drake, Kid Cudi, The Killers and Jackson 5. His remix of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" was featured in the 2012 film "Project X." Aoki also formed his own label, Dim Mak records, in 1996 and has released music by other electro-house artists such as Datsik and Dada Life.

"From the feedback we got, I think this mix of rap and EDM will be something that will appeal to a majority of people," said Nick McCormick, executive director for SPB. "We're really hoping to have another sold-out concert like we did with Drake in 2010."

Doors will open at 5:30 and the show begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at Meadow Brook Music Festival, located on Oakland's campus.

Tickets will be available starting Monday, Feb. 18, both at the Center for Student Activities service window and online at ticketmaster.com.

Student tickets will cost $10 for lawn general admission seating, $15 for pavilion and $25 for pit tickets. Tickets for the public will cost $20 for lawn general admission seating and $25 for pavilion.
