New McCree Opens 2010-11 Season Ticket Campaign With Saints of St. John Street

The New McCree Theatre, 5005 Cloverlawn, Flint, has announced the kick-off of its subscription campaign for the 2010-2011 Season. Season tickets can be purchased for $40.00 for adults and $30.00 for students and senior citizens at the theatre or from any McCree Theatre staff or Board member. The season's package consists of four main stage productions, including:
The Saints of St. John Street, a drama with music written by Charles H. Winfrey. Relive the joys and sorrows of Flint's old St. John Street neighborhood as told through the eyes of four young lads who call themselves the Saints. The boys introduce you to many of the characters who walked St. John Street, and recall many of The Situations that brought both glee and gloom to that neighborhood. The acapella harmonies of Street Corner singers add pulse and rhythm to this production.

Auditions: August 2 & 3, 2010, 7:00 p.m.

Previews: September 24 & 25, 2010, 8:00 p.m.

Performances: September 30, October 1 & 2, October 7 - 9, and October 14 - 16, 2010.

Sincerely, the Musical Odyssey of an Original Moonglow, written by Charles H. Winfrey, in memory of the late Harvey Fuqua, who passed away July 6 at the age of 80. This musical is chock full of music created by Fuqua while with the Moonglows, during his stint with Motown, and during his solo producing career where he managed groups like New Birth, Sylvester and Two Tons of Fun.

Auditions: October 11 & 12, 2010, 7:00 p.m.

Previews: November 26 & 27, 2010

Performances: December 2 - 18, 2010.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone, a drama by August Wilson, set in a black boardinghouse in Pittsburgh in 1911, this drama by the author of The Piano Lesson, Seven Guitars and Fences is an installment in the author's series chronicling black life in each decade of this century. Each denizen of the boardinghouse has a different relationship to a past of slavery as well as to the urban present. They include the proprietors, an eccentric clairvoyant with a penchant for old country voodoo, a young homeboy up from the South and a mysterious stranger who is searching for his wife.

Auditions: December 27 & 28, 2010, 7:00 p.m.

Previews: February 18 & 19, 2011, 8:00 p.m.

Performances: February 24 - March 12, 2011

Rock the Boat: The Fleming Williams Story, written by Caroline Smith and Charles H. Winfrey. This original musical recalls the travels and travails of Fleming Williams from singing on the street corners of Flint, MI to serving as lead singer for one of the hottest disco vocal groups of the era, The Hues Corporation. The play relives Fleming's stints with Flint's Creators and 21st Generation, as well as the latter group's trip to California and the fun and intrigue they encountered on the way.

Auditions: March 7 & 8, 2011, 7:00 p.m.

Previews: April 29 & 30, 2011, 8:00 p.m.

Performances: May 5 - 21, 2011, 8:00 p.m.

Admission: Buy-the-House, Fundraisers, and Group Package Rates Available!
Previews: advance rate - $8.00 adults, $5.00 students/seniors; at the door rate - $10.00 adults, $6.00 students/seniors; There will be no matinee performances for our Preview Performances. All Preview performances will be held at 8:00 p.m.

Regular Performances: advance rate - $12.00 adults, $7.00 students/seniors; at the door rates - $15.00 adults, $10.00 students/seniors.
