Music, Theatre & Dance at Oakland University Presents Sophocles ANTIGONE Today
By: BWW News Desk
Music, Theatre and Dance at Oakland University is pleased to open the third season of its Arts-After- Work (AAW) series with today's Sept. 5 staging of Sophocles' "Antigone" by students in the Classical Theatre Study in Greece program.
Set to begin at 6 p.m., the performance is an adaptation for a modern audience that features a nonverbal prologue and choreographed stage fight using traditional Greek masks. "I like to create a prologue that's part of the performance experience so when the actual play begins, (the audience is) already engaged," said Theatre Professor Karen Sheridan. "It empowers them to understand the story in the same way as a classical audience." Other highlights of the fall AAW series include the Student Showcase on Oct. 3, a concert featuring the OU Chamber Orchestra on Nov. 21 and a performance of Oakland Dance Theatre and OU Repertory Dance Company on Dec. 5.Videos
