Meadow Brook Theatre to Stage 70, GIRLS, 70, 5/29-6/23

By:

When the residents of the New Sussex Arms, an Upper West Side retirement hotel, discover it's slated to be sold, they know they have to stop it. But how? They can't afford to buy it. Or can they? They hatch a scheme to steal furs from New York City stores, planning to use the profits to buy it themselves. This final presentation of MBT's season will have you cheering on these larcenous folks who just want to save their home.

"70, Girls, 70" features music and lyrics from John Kander and Fred Ebb, who created "Chicago" and "Cabaret." The story was written by Fred Ebb and Norman L. Martin, based on the 1958 play "Breath of Spring" by Peter Coke.

Audiences will recognize many of their favorite MBT veterans in the cast of "70, Girls, 70" including Tobin Hissong, Mary Robin Roth, Judy Dery, Hugh Maguire, Trudy Mason, Paul Hopper, Ruth Crawford, Henry Nelson, Joseph Feldmann, James Busam and Claire Kaiser. Making their MBT debut are Tamara Anderson and Candice M. Coleman.

Meadow Brook Theatre Artistic Director, Travis W. Walter, directs "70, Girls, 70." Choreography is by Tyrick Wiltez Jones. Terry W. Carpenter is the stage manager with scenic design by Kristen Gribbin, costumes by Liz Moore, lighting by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Mike Duncan. Music director Stacy White plays piano and directs the band, which includes Alissa Hetzner (keyboard), Sig Hepler (guitar), Andy Lloyd (bass), Nick Matthews (percussion), Laurie Burns (reeds), John Hartwick/Michael McGowan (trumpet) and John Gonthier (trombone).
