Detroit Public Television (DPTV) is proud to pay tribute to one of Detroit's true heroes, Dr. David DiChiera, in Detroit Performs: A Salute to David DiChiera on Friday, June 30th, at 8pm ET.

The word "hero" doesn't even begin to describe DiChiera. His desire to bring world-class opera to our area led him to establish Michigan Opera Theatre in 1971, which in turn, led to a search for a permanent home for the company. That culminated in 1996 with the transformation of the dilapidated Capitol Theatre into the magnificent Detroit Opera House, with superstar tenor Luciano Pavarotti present at the opening gala. Join us for a special look at David's career as a musician, composer, artistic director, entrepreneur and visionary with archival footage, interviews with colleagues and community leaders, and in-studio surprise guests.

Don't miss this celebration of the man who sparked downtown Detroit's rebirth and introduced the magic of opera to so many. Detroit Performs: A Salute to David DiChiera airs on Friday, June 30th, at 8pm ET on DPTV. For more information, visit http://dptv.org/mot.
