Christine Lavin To Headline A Holiday benefit Concert For MCREST 12/5

By:

Contemporary singer-songwriter Christine Lavin & The Mistletones, will headline a holiday concert benefiting MCREST (Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter) Saturday, Dec. 5 at the WCS Performing Arts Center in Sterling Heights. The 8 p.m. performance, presented by Christian Financial Credit Union and sponsored by Comerica and Community Central Bank, will feature Lavin's unique - often poignant and frequently funny - brand of original tunes, traditional hymns and holiday anthems, as well as entertaining stories and odes to the dysfunction of the season.

With 19 solo albums spanning more than two decades, Lavin was recently named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Artists of the Last 15 Years by Performing Songwriter Magazine. She hosts Slipped Discs on Sirius XM Radio's folk station, The Village, featuring albums of established and emerging American singer-songwriters. Lavin is also a founding member of the popular female musical group, the Four Bitchin' Babes.

Choirs from member churches St. Blase Catholic Church and St. Michael Catholic Community along with MCREST supporter North Broadway Church of Christ will join Christine onstage as The Mistletones singing a variety of Christmas songs. It is the diversity, and collective community presence onstage in a co-bill with Christine that defines this holiday event.

Proceeds from the concert will support MCREST, a nonprofit organization that serves the homeless in Macomb County by providing food and shelter to individuals and families year 'round through a network of nearly 90 churches that house the program in rotating weeks. In addition to overnight accommodations, MCREST participants receive three meals daily, shower facilities, transportation and, often, laundry assistance.

Recent statistics and projections underscore the urgent need for MCREST's services now, and in the near future:

-- Macomb County's unemployment rate is approximately 18.6 percent,
exceeding the State of Michigan's rate of 15.3 percent, the highest of
any state in the nation.

-- Limited resources force MCREST to turn away an average of 35 people
each month, more than half of which are children.

Reserved seating, at $20 and $30, is available in advance by visiting www.mcrest.org or calling 586-415-5101. The WCS Performing Arts Center is located at 12901 Fifteen Mile Rd.
