Bria Skonberg Coming to Wharton Center This Month

By:

Jazz music has never sounded so hip. BRIA SKONBERG, a trumpeter and vocalist, uses her versatility and youth to bring freshness to the age-old art of jazz. Part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Jazz Series at Wharton Center, Skonberg appears on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in the Pasant Theatre. Tickets to see BRIA SKONBERG are available at the official ticketing outlets: online at whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office at Wharton Center, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON.

A mere 32 years of age, BRIA SKONBERG has already made a huge splash in the jazz scene and has collected accolades and honors representing a lifetime of accomplishments. She is thought to be "a specialist in classic American hot jazz" and often lists Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet as her inspirations. Skonberg's debut U.S. album So Is The Day peaked at #7 on the national jazz charts and featured original compositions that showcased Skonberg's knack for combining styles. The Wall Street Journal declares that Skonberg is "poised to be one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation".

Skonberg has garnered experience from playing over 50 jazz festivals throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Some of Skonberg's most prestigious accolades include the Jazz at Lincoln Center Swing! Award (2015) and Downbeat Magazine Rising Star (2013- 15), among many other nominations and awards for her brilliant take on jazz music. In her live shows, Skonberg not only plays the trumpet, she also provides soothing vocals to her songs and finds a way to connect with her audience. Jazz evokes a certain feeling in listeners, and Skonberg does an expert job at making sure her audience is right there with her during the entire performance.
