Black and Brown Theatre, a local professional theatre for artists of color, is excited to celebrate local theatre artists of color with their annual Bricolage Awards on Monday May 21st at 7pm at Bank Suey.
The Bricolage Awards were established in 2017 to honor and celebrate theatre artists of color in Metro Detroit with various awards including Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
This year, the festival will also honor early career artists as the future of our theatre scene, allies who support theatre artists of color, and actors who have worked for theatre companies outside of Black and Brown Theatre.
Local actress and nominee, K Edmonds, says "...to think that people that I admire and enjoy their work also enjoy mine..! This whole experience has been A-MAZ-ING, and I am truly honored!"
Fellow nominee, Assata Haki says, "Black and Brown Theatre has nominated me for Best Supporting Actress... Wowwwwww.... I'm so Humbled...It's the thought...not a win... that's Embracing my heart and soul right now..."
For many theatre artists of color who continue to go unacknowledged, this awards ceremony is a chance to bring unity within the community.
Black and Brown Theatre's Bricolage Awards take place Monday, May 21st at 7pm at Bank Suey (10345 Joseph Campau Ave, Hamtramck). Admission is free and open to the public. Street parking is available.
