Bay City Players to Present JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, 7/28-31

Bay City Players will present Jesus Christ Superstar, Lyrics by Tim Rice and Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Performance dates are July 28 - 31, 2016 at the Bay City Players, 1214 Columbus Avenue, in Bay City. Performance times are 8:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Jesus Christ Superstar is Directed by Michael Wisniewski with Music Direction by Loren Kirker Kranz and Jan Sutherland, and Choreography by Holly Haga Bills.

It began as a record album and became a cultural phenomenon after its Broadway opening in 1971 as a rock opera. Jesus Christ Superstar musically takes the last days of Jesus with His disciples in Jerusalem to His crucifixion. The music is a mix going from tender emotions ("I Don't Know How to Love Him"), to sassy arrogance ("King Herod's Song"), to thrilling acclamations. Superstar is touching, disturbing, and a totally involving theatre experience about Jesus' struggles with the politics and people of His time, but with a bent toward modern audiences and contemporary feelings. Superstar is another special summer production giving Players' audiences and performers an out-of-the-ordinary theatrical experience.
