The thrilling new Off-Broadway musical blasts open the doors of The Manhattan Project, a government-funded program of top scientists with the task of creating the world's first atomic bomb.

It centres on the life Leo Szilard the Hungarian born scientist who conceived the nuclear chain reaction in 1933, then later campaigned against the use of A bomb on Japan.

The musical with Book and Lyrics by Danny Ginges- Music and Lyrics by Philip Foxman - Created by Danny Ginges was staged off Broadway in 2014 after an original season in Sydney.

The Meadow Brook Theatre's artistic director Travis W Walter said the production has been getting "regular standing ovations which we don't normally get in Michigan. People have been crying and staying back to share their stories of World War 11."

The Australian writing team spent a month in Detroit to finalise the script.

"I am very happy with it," said the writer Danny Ginges.

"I think it is now a case of pen's down."

The month long season at the Meadow Brook Theatre wraps up on Saturday March 5.
