Shots ring out at a London theatre, and suddenly Richard Hannay finds himself hiding a mysterious woman in his flat. The next morning she's dead and he's on the run from spies, the police...even a flirtatious farmer's wife. Four actors play dozens of characters in this hysterical romp that will leave you breathless.

"The 39 Steps" runs January 5 through 30, 2011, at Meadow Brook Theatre, on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

Beginning as a book by John Buchan, "The 39 Steps" is best known as the 1935 film version directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This adaptation by Patrick Barlow has been a hit in London and on Broadway, winning two Tony Awards. It continues to run in New York until mid-January 2011.

MBT favorite Rusty Mewha is Richard Hannay. Newcomers Rob Pantano and Kevin Young play Clown #1 and Clown #2, respectively. Stephanie Wahl plays Annabella Schmidt (and Pamela Edwards and Martgaret McTyte).

"The 39 Steps" is directed by Travis W. Walter, MBT artistic director. Terry W. Carpenter is the stage manager, with set design by Kristen Gribbin, costumes by Liz Moore, lights by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Mike Duncan.

Tickets range from $24 to $39 and are available by calling the Meadow Brook Theatre box office at 248-377-3300 or going online at www.ticketmaster.com. Groups of eight or more should call 248-370-3316 for group discounts. The schedule includes an American Sign Language interpreted performance on Wednesday, January 19 at 8 p.m.
