María la O is a Cuban zarzuela composed by the iconic maestro Ernesto Lecuona, whose work unites the worlds of colonial Cuba and folkloric musical traditions. The zarzuela weaves a dramatic narrative around María—a beautiful mulatta caught in a storm of passion and social restrictions—where moving arias, full of love, passion, and betrayal, accompanied by the rhythmic and vibrant Cuban music, create a vivid portrayal of the time and era in which it is set: Havana in the 1800s. The production presented by Fine Arts of Miami represents a vibrant interpretation of this classic. For tickets: www.fimeartsofmiami.com/home
