Florida Studio Theatre Offers

Youth Education Workshops

The Florida Studio Theatre School has announced its line-up of Youth Education Workshops for winter 2007!

Beginning in January, FST will offer a variety of theatre workshops for students aged 5-17. From Little Theatre, a class for your littlest actor or actress, to Basic Acting, Improv and Jazz Dance, classes designed for the older students, FST's Theatre School offers a variety of engaging, energetic and fun Workshops.

Under the direction of Kate Alexander, FST's Education Program is comprised of a core of theatre professionals trained to teach free of personal dictates. FST's methodology is geared towards helping each child find his or her own "door" to creative achievement. Classes are small, with no more than 8-12 students each, and are taught under the guidance of professional artists.

FST's Winter Classes begin January 8 and run through mid-March. A full schedule is listed below. For more information or to register, please contact Pam Smith at (941) 366-1350.  Florida Studio Theatre 1241 North Palm Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34236 Website: www.fst2000.org

Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building – now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its three theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and its newest space, the Gompertz Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
