Yale Whiffenpoofs Come to the King Center 4/23

By:

Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to join The Yale Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. Recently featured on NBC's The Sing-Off, the "Whiffs" began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. On April 23rd at 7:00pm, The Yale Whiffenpoofs will perform live at the King Center for the Performing Arts at 3865 North Wickham Road, Melbourne. The concert will feature Viera High School's award-winning a cappella group "Off the Record." Tickets are $22.50 for adults and $17.50 for students, available at www.kingcenter.com or at the King Center Box Office.

"The Whiffenpoof Song", the group's signature ballad, gained nationwide recognition when Rudy Vallée recorded a solo version in 1927. The song would later become one of the popular tunes of World War II. Later on, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley, and many other artists followed suit with their own recordings.

Today, the group has become one of Yale's most celebrated and hallowed traditions, maintaining a performance schedule of over 200 concerts annually in addition to recording an album and embarking on a three-month world tour.

In recent years, The Yale Whiffenpoofs have performed for the likes of Presidents Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and Clinton, Mother Theresa, and the Dalai Lama, in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Rose Bowl, and for events such as the World Series, Saturday Night Live, NBC's Today Show, and The West Wing.

The Yale Whiffenpoofs' repertoire of jazz standards, classic ballads, traditional Yale songs, and recent popular hits continues to delight audiences all over the world. The Yale Whiffenpoofs look forward to celebrating a full century of musical excellence and professional showmanship at Yale, across America, and around the world.
