Savion Glover will tap his way onto the Van Wezel stage Tuesday, February 22 at 8 p.m.Savion Glover became a  dance legend with his Broadway smash hit Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk, which won a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award and two Obies, but kids may recognize the fancy footwork he laid down for Mumbles, the twinkle-toed penguin in the 2006 animated film Happy Feet. In the years since Savion exploded onto the stage in Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk he has engaged in a relentlessly curious search for new ways to showcase tap dance while stripping it down to its essence.

In his latest creation, SoLo iN TiME, Glover and his company of dancers and musicians weave tap and flamenco traditions into a breathtakingly electric montage of speed, rhythm and song. "Mr. Glover has found a potent meeting point between his unadorned, musical approach to tap and flamenco's raw passion."-New York Times.

Savion Glover and company pay tribute to the percussive melodies of flamenco in SoLo iN TiME, accompanied by his newest dance band--Bare Soundz, live flamenco vibes, and his acclaimed Hooferz style. The piece is a continuation of the HooFeRzCLuB tradition-- using tap as sound, and sound as dance.

Savion made his Broadway debut at age 12, starring in The Tap Dance Kid.  Four years later, he made his film debut in Tap, with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr. He joined the cast of Sesame Street from 1990-1995. Broadway credits include Black and Blue and Jelly's Last Jam.  Glover is also the star of Spike Lee's feature film, Bamboozled. Glover's current project is the educational initiative HooFerZCluB School for tap, of which he states, "Our Tap Dance educational curriculum recognizes that all students have the right to an arts education as a fundamental part of basic education."  Savion choreographs in his famed "Hooferz" style, which he described to TimeOut NY as, "an artists ability to present a 'totally free world.' Its 'trust, it's real, it's sad, it's love, it's all types of emotions that just spark this energy to come out.'"

Ticket prices range from $10 to $50.  For more information and to buy tickets, contact the Van Wezel Box office at (941) 953-3368 or log onto www.vanwezel.org.  SoLo iN TiME is a part of the Van Wezel Family Night Series: buy an adult ticket and get a child in for FREE, and includes a meet and greet with the artist, snacks and beverages. This show is sponsored by Board's Head & Comcast.
