VWPAH Welcomes Manhattan Transfer, 12/3
THE MANHATTAN TRANSFER will bring their ever changing sound to the VAN WEZEL PERFORMING ARTS HALL on Friday, December 3 at 8 pm.
The platinum selling, world-wide chart topping super group, widely renowned for broadening the musical landscape with their innovative, genre defying sound-THE MANHATTAN TRANSFER will be here just in time to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. Their 1992 Christmas album remains one of their most popular, including acclaimed classics like Silent Night, Holy Night and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. TMT's highly-anticipated The Chick Corea Songbook was released last year, celebrating their 40th anniversary. The new album features an appearance from Chick Corea and showcases some of his more recognizable material with a MANHATTAN TRANSFER twist.
The quartet made Grammy history in 1981 by becoming the first group to win Grammys simultaneously in both jazz and pop categories. THE MANHATTAN TRANSFER put out the second most honored album in pop history in 1985 with Vocalese, earning an impressive 12 Grammy nominations, surpassed only by Michael Jackson's Thriller at the time. The group is also responsible for bringing Brazilian music to main stream American radio stations and for introducing Bob Marley and The Wailers to American television audiences, further broadening the horizons of music lovers everywhere. They continue to push the boundaries of jazz, pop, and a capella music, combining a sense of nostalgia with a contemporary spin.
