The Playgroup LLC Opens Season with SHORT CUTS 4, 5/7

By:

The Playgroup LLC, kicks off its fourth season with SHORT CUTS 4 - nine original plays by local playwrights, all ten minutes or less. One performance only, Wednesday, May 7th, 8pm, at the Lake Worth Playhouse, 713 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth. All seats, $20. Tickets may be purchased by calling 561-586-6410 or visiting www.lakeworthplayhouse.org.

The show is a lively mix of comedy and drama, produced with minimal props and sets, which are changed by the actors in full view of the audience. The plays in SHORT CUTS 4 include:

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OLD by Brian Reeves - Life has bumps and scrapes. When you get to one-hundred, you've had more bumps and scrapes than most.

MIND GAMES by Brian Reeves - Sometimes in a psychological session, things get all twisted.

LIFE AFTER LOVE by Todd Caster - A widow and her middle-aged son meet for lunch and explore the paths their lives have taken.

THE AUDITION by Don Grimme - Four senior citizens audition for roles in a significantly altered version of Hedda Gabler with unexpected results.

SOCIAL JUSTICE by Marnie Bauman - Once again, the prototypical battle is waged between Good Angel and Bad Angel.

THE AGAPE PRINCIPLE by Marla E. Schwartz - A journalist encounters her ex-boyfriend at a Miami gallery as she begins to interview a famous elderly artist.

FOREVER YOUNG by Mary Unterbrink - An elderly woman lives it up with a much younger man to the consternation of her children.

ENERGY VAMPIRES by Patricia Crumpler - Good advice is dispensed to someone not paying attention.

CASH FLOW by Joan McIver - Who are those suspicious characters in the bank lobby?

One of the hallmarks of the Shortcuts series are these set changes, designed by director Brian Reeves, which often constitute a play within the plays. Other Shortcuts 4 directors are Joyce Sweeney, Irene Kessler, Teresa Biber and Bob Benjamin. The cast this year includes Playgroup veterans such as David Ehrlich, Penny Mandel, Paul Rosen and Barbara Weisberger, along with actors new to the show, such as Clelia Patrizio, Elli Murray and Christopher Mitchell.
