GableStage is pleased to present the Southeastern Premiere of The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh, opening August 19th and running through September 17th.

With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka and the Brothers Grimm, The Pillowman centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

The play, last year's Broadway smash-hit, features several of South Florida's most talented actors--Antonio Amadeo, Ken Clement, Paul Tei, Gregg Weiner, Kevin Reilly, Kim St. Leon, Sammi-Jack Martincak and Karl Urban.

"The season's most exciting and original new play! Appallingly funny, endlessly quotable, delicious and wondrous! Winner of the OLIVIER AWARD in London for Best New Play~dazzles with a brightness now largely absent from Broadway. Mr. McDonagh's true subject is not gruesome crime and unjust punishment, although that's what a synopsis of the play might lead you to believe. What The Pilllowman is about, above all, is storytelling and the thrilling narrative potential of theater itself."

~Ben Brantley, New York Times

"An extraordinary play, a macabre fantasy, a horror ride in some theme park of the mind! This may not be the play for either the faint-hearted or unthoughtful, but with it McDonagh stakes his claim to being the best English-speaking playwright of his generation!"

~Clive Barnes, New York Post

Please note: This play contains scenes and language that some may find disturbing.

Performances: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm and 7pm. There will be a preview performance on August 18th at 8pm.
