THE PRESIDENT’S OWN United States Marine Band Hosts Masterclass 10/17
On Mon. Oct. 17, 2011 Musicians from "The President's Own" United States Marine Band will conduct a Masterclass with Riverview High School's band students in conjunction with their Florida tour, and concert at the Van Wezel. Sixty students will have the opportunity to break into sections and work with nine musicians in forty-five minute sessions, and then regroup for a side by side play along with the professional musicians. Port Charlotte High School's band students have also been invited to observe. This Masterclass is funded in part by a grant from The Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc.
The Marine Band is America's oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as the "The President's Own" since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band's primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
