NEW THEATRE CLOSES ITS 09-10 SEASON WITH

RAISED IN CAPTIVITY BY Nicky Silver

New Theatre presents its final production of the 2009-2010 season:  Raised in Captivity by Nicky Silver, running April 23 through May 16, 2010.  This Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominated dark comedy starts with estranged twin siblings who are attending their mother's funeral, after she was killed by her broken, flying shower head.  Add in a husband, a ghost, a convicted murderer, a male escort and a therapist and what you get is a whacky, absurdist comedy about serious family values, relationships and self discovery.

"RAISED IN CAPTIVITY is about guilt, redemption and self-punishment, and, against all odds, it is also very funny...[Silver's] dialogue, which skillfully juxtaposes the banal and the outlandishly whimsical, has the shimmer of an opal...Archly absurdist comedies come cheap these days. finding one with depth of feeling is truly a cause to celebrate." -NY Times.

"...funny, original, imaginative and possessed of a furious energy that makes it spin like a top...full of wittily prickly lines and riotous exchanges, and it uses the stage in splashily irreverent ways that can be exhilarating." -NY Magazine.

WARNING: The play contains adult content and language!

Raised in Captivity is directed by Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, and performed by a cast comprised of New veterans Clint Hooper, Lorenzo Gutierrez, and Barbara Sloan joined by Katie Amadeo and Shane Tanner, both making their New Theatre debut.  Returning to New Theatre are Production Stage Manager Dana Hesch, Costume Designer K. Blair Brown, Lighting Designer Jesus Casimiro, Sound Designer Ozzie Quintana and Scenic Designer Nicole Quintana.
