Pulitzer Prize & Tony-Winning AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY Opens at Florida Rep

Florida Repertory Theatre announced the opening of August: Osage County, a play the New York Times called "fiercely funny" and "turbo-charged." This Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning tragicomedy is a fast-paced, brutally honest look at an American family in crisis, and unfolds on the stage like a like a juicy TV drama. It will both stun audiences and leave them begging for more.

August: Osage County will have it's Southeastern United States premiere at Florida Rep, playing March 11 through 27 with discounted previews March 8, 9 and 10. Florida Rep is experimenting with an earlier curtain time for August: Osage County, and all evening performances will begin at 7:30pm. Curtain times for matinee performances, however, will remain 2pm.

"This really is one of the best plays I've had the pleasure to work on," said Producing Artistic Director and the play's director, Robert Cacioppo, "and I cannot wait for our audiences to experience it. This play is filled with all of the things we delight in watching: it's really funny, it's offensive, it has plot twists, and juicy family secrets are revealed. I promise you that August: Osage County will be one of the most memorable evenings you will ever spend in the theatre."

August: Osage County is a terrifyingly real play about a father who disappeares, a mother caught in the grip of addiction, a marriage unraveling and a family approaching total meltdown. This is one family reunion you don't want to miss. The New York Times raved that August "is flat-out, no asterisks and without qualification, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years!" August: Osage County is a searing dark comedy that delights in its very adult content, mature language and dramatic situations. It's an electric evening at the theatre, but is not recommended for the easily offended - and that is why you will love it.

The production brings together what can only be called an "All-Star Line-Up" of Florida Rep ensemble members - thirteen in total - as well as a few new faces on the Arcade stage. All of them are true masters of their craft, and Florida Rep audiences will recognize Sara Morsey (The Glass Menagerie; The Last Romance), Carrie Lund (Sylvia; Noises Off), Mark Chambers (Boeing-Boeing), Chris Clavelli (Sylvia; Opus), Jan Wikstrom (Dancing at Lughnasa), Stacey Scotte (Absurd Person Singular), Rachel Burttram (Gaslight, Trying), Greg Longenhagen (Tuesdays with Morrie, Rounding Third), and John-Patrick Driscoll (Almost Maine). Newcomers to Florida Rep include Ray McDavitt, David Sitler, Ashley Price and Florida Rep intern, Megan Carr.

Robert Cacioppo (Gaslight, You Can't Take It with You) directs the production and is joined by an expert creative team that includes Jim Hunter (set designer; The Big Bang), David Upton (lighting designer; Alone Together), Roberta Malcolm (Costume Designer; Gaslight), Kate Smith (Sound Designer; The Santaland Diaries), and Amy L. Massari (Stage Manager; Noises Off).

August: Osage County by Tracy Letts plays at Florida Rep March 11-27, with nearly sold-out discounted previews on March 8 at 7:30pm, March 9 at 2pm and March 10 at 7:30pm. All evening performances of August: Osage County begin at 7:30pm. Regular performances are Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees on Wednesdays Sundays and selected Saturdays at 2pm. The run also features a Special 7pm Twilight Performance on Sunday Mar. 12.

August: Osage County is sponsored by Robb & Stucky Interiors and Florida Weekly.
