Palm Beach Dramaworks Sets 2016-17 Season

Five provocative, widely acclaimed plays constitute Palm Beach Dramaworks' 2016-2017 season, which gets underway at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre on Friday evening, October 14 with Tennessee Williams' final masterpiece, the autumnal The Night of the Iguana(1961). That's followed on December 2 by Jay Presson Allen's wickedly funnyTru (1989), a one-man show that takes place at a particularly lonely time in the life of novelist Truman Capote. Next up, opening on February 3, is Collected Stories (1996), Donald Margulies' richly textured exploration of friendship and ethics between an older writer and her protégée. The season continues on March 29 with Tom Stoppard's Oliver Award-winningArcadia(1993), his luminous and illuminating comedy of ideas that is set in two different centuries and is generally regarded as his finest work. The season concludes withThe Cripple of Inishmaan (1996), Martin McDonagh's poignant, tragicomedy that carries on the tradition of great Irish storytelling.

Subscriptions for current subscribers go on sale on March 7. New subscriptions will be available beginning March 14. Single tickets go on sale on to subscribers September 6 and to the general public September 12.

THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA

In the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright's last major play, a defrocked and spiritually bankrupt minister takes refuge at a Mexican hotel and connects with a kind, lonely artist who could hold the key to his salvation.

December 2, 2016 - January 1, 2017

Abandoned by the high society friends who recognize themselves as the characters in a published excerpt from his unflattering, unfinished novel, Capote humorously dishes, ruminates on his life, and self-medicates as a solitary Christmas approaches.

COLLECTED STORIES

February 3 - March 5, 2017

Whose life is it, anyway? Loyalty vs. creative freedom is the moral issue at the center of this riveting play, in which the protégée of an established author writes a novel based on her mentor's affair with a famous poet.

ARCADIA

March 31 - April 30, 2017

Set in one stately house and two different centuries, this profound, funny, Oliver Award-winning masterpiece explores great mysteries of science and art, and illuminates the very human desire for making connections, both intellectual and romantic.

THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN

May 19 - June 18, 2017
In this darkly comic play, a handicapped young man seeks to escape the cruelty and bleakness that engulf him on the desolate island of Inishmaan by participating in a Hollywood film being made nearby.
