Miami International Piano Festival Discovery Series Runs 5/16-19

True to its mission to "discover, promote, support and document the great masters of the keyboard," three compelling new artists will make their first solo recital appearances in S. Florida. Each was chosen for their unique ability to bring personal and fresh interpretations to classical piano masterpieces. The Miami International Piano Festival offers six unique and inspiring performances including a premiere event of "Music & Painting" which will feature a celebrated artist inspired by music, painting live before the audience.

Nikolay Khozyainov (Russia) - Sonatas & Songs
A phenomenal 21 year old pianist, first prize winner of the 2012 Dublin International Piano Competition and the youngest finalist of the XVI International Chopin Piano Competition makes his South Florida debut immediately following his debut at Carnegie Hall with a captivating program that includes Sonatas by Beethoven, Prokofieff, & Liszt & the Barcarolle and Bereceuse by Chopin. Program includes a multi-media presentation by "Lecturer in Residence" Professor Frank Cooper.

Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy (Germany) - Preludes & Variations
Praised for his interpretive sophistication, depth and originality, and, his dazzling intellectual power, Schmitt-Leonardy presents Chopin's 24 Preludes Opus 29 and Mendelssohn's Variations Sérieuses. Rounding out the program are Kabalevsky Preludes and Prokofieff, Sonata No. 3, Op. 28. Adding to the Festival experience will be a multimedia presentation by "Lecturer in Residence" Professor Frank Cooper.

Prodigies & Masters of Tomorrow: Three Astonishing Prodigies

Beloved Chamber Jewels
Three astonishing young artists get together to share their insights through a varied and delightful program. Each one of these Prodigies was presented at the Festival when they were barely in their teens. Don't miss this rare opportunity to witness their transformation into mature and great artists. Their program will include Beethoven's Spring Violin Sonata, Brahms E-minor Cello Sonata and the virtuosic Mendelssohn's D-minor Piano Trio.

Joseph Moog (Germany) - A Sheer Variety of Spectacular Works
A combination of flawless virtuosic technique, an individual approach to programming single out Joseph Moog, at the age of 25, as one of the most exciting young pianists todaY. Joseph Moog knows instinctively that making music is a life, not a career. Moog has selected several beautiful arrangements of Haydn, Mozart, Wagner (Encountering the BLACK SWAN), Debussy, & Verdi for his first ever Florida solo recital. Rounding out the program will be a multimedia presentation by Festival "Lecturer in Residence" Professor Frank Cooper.

With his profound understanding of the music of Spain andits culture, Jorge Luis Prats will be the consummate tour guide through this composer's crowning achievement of pure virtuosity from the demanding Iberia Suite by Isaac Albeniz representing a particular city in Spain. Prepare yourself to be carried away to another place and time by one of today's most accomplished artists.

An Evening of Music & Painting: Misha Dacic (Pianist) & Vladimir Markovic (Painter) - The Enigma of Creativity
Join us for an exquisite world premiere for one show only of an interactive evening of music and live painting. This performance echoes the grand traditions of the Romantic Period where pianists were inspired by the painting of great masters - except that this evening, the music of great masters will inspire the art. A pianist of extraordinary power, Misha Dacic, will inspire the renowned muralist, Vladimir Markovic to produce a painting - live on stage, as Dacic performs the mystical music of Scriabin and Mompou's most beautiful, elusive, simple and mystical music of Evaporation.

To round out the Festival experience, Frank Cooper, Musicology Research Professor at University of Miami's Frost School of Music, has been named "Lecturer in Residence" and will be on hand to provide a dynamic intellectual perspective on the artists' choice of repertoire.
