Today, BWW is thrilled to spotlight the students and teachers of Newton Community High School in Newton, Illinois!

Plenty of course options are offered to high-school students at Newtwon High interested in the fine and performing arts. Classes include 'Concert Band' which affords students the opportunity to showcase their talents during sporting events, and at the annual winter and spring concerts, the 'Drama-Acting/Performance' semester program with students applying performance and technical theatre skills toward a spring musical theatre production, as well as additional drama subjects studied under the English and Public Speaking curriculum focusing on oral interpretation, choral reading, pantomine, acting and other aspects of theater arts.

Last month, over 50 students came together to present the spring musical, the family classic 'The Sound of Music'. Helmed by Sarah Maletta and supported by acting and singing coach Doug Finkbiner and assistance director and choreographer Paige Hart, the show played from April 19 through 22, 2012.

Congratulations to all students and teachers at Newton on a successful run of your spring musical, and on being named this week's school in the spotlight!
