STAGE AURORA THEATRICAL COMPANY presents "DREAMGIRLS" AT THE FLORIDA THEATRE

Dreamgirls, one of this writer's very favorite musicals, will be presented by Stage Aurora Theatrical Company, performing at the Florida Theatre May 10-11, 2008.  Featuring music by Henry Krieger, lyrics and a book by Tom Eyen, this soulful show boasts such show-stopping musical numbers as "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," "I Am Changing," and "One Night Only."  In addition to receiving six Tony Awards, the film of Dreamgirls took home two Academy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards in 2007.

Dreamgirls is the rags-to-riches story of an all-girl singing trio from Chicago called The Dreamettes, in later years they are renamed The Dreams, who experience much heartache, but also find their dreams come true. The story of the Dreams is partially inspired by the real-life Motown group the Supremes, before they became known as Diana Ross And The Supremes. The original 1981 Broadway production won six Tony Awards including "Best Book" and was directed, produced and co-choreographed by Michael Bennett, who won the Tony Award for "Best Choreography." Bennett's renowned Broadway career also included A Chorus Line, Company, Follies, and Seesaw, among others.

Dreamgirls will feature Anthony Mincey II as Curtis Taylor, Jr., Meggan Lee and Sherene Phillips as Deena Jones, Lolita Jennings as Lorell Robinson, and Tarra Jones as Effie White.

Stage Aurora has produced 18 productions over the past 4 years receiving acclaim for: Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN, Langston Hughes' BLACK NATIVITY, and Tom Stolz's MAHALIA. In addition, the premiere of Darryl Reuben Hall's FRAT HOUSE performed to near full-capacity at the Florida Theatre.
