Cooper Getschal & Beach Boomers to Play Maltz Jupiter Theatre, 4/24

By:

Jupiter's own Cooper Getschal and the Beach Boomers are bringing their own brand of music to the Maltz Jupiter Theatre in an April 24 concert that's sure to get even the stodgiest Boomer grooving.

The show, billed as 3 Minutes from Retirement: The Lost Hits of America's Greatest Songwriters, is about songwriters who dream of creating that one 3-minute, No. 1 hit song that allows them to retire. It's also about persistence and about the effort that goes into creating those three minutes.

"This is new music for Beach Boomers, by Beach Boomers and about Beach Boomers," says Cooper. "If you're a Boomer and you live in South Florida, then you, too, are an official Beach Boomer."

As for Cooper, he says he is in the 57th year of a three-year plan. He has worked for years as a session musician - he programmed the drums on Michael Jackson's Bad - and as a songwriter - he has worked with such artists as Jeff Silbar (Wind Beneath My Wings) and Jeff Barry (Leader of the Pack, Da Doo Ron Ron, Be My Baby). Cooper's own songs have been covered by a variety of artists, including Kenny G, Johnny Mathis, Kenneth & West, The Spinners and The Trammps. He has a degree in music from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Each one of the award-winning writers who are part of this show saw something in Cooper that enticed them to work with him on this project, which took years to put together. They are all part of his behind the "behind-the-scenes" stories.

The songwriting team that worked with Cooper on creating the original the musical material for 3 Minutes from Retirement collectively have written hundreds of top 40 hits, garnered more than 75 top 10 hits, 15 Billboard No. 1 songs, three Song of the Year Awards, and the "Billboard Song of the Century Award" (Jeff Silbar/Larry Henley - Wind Beneath My Wings.) 3 Minutes from Retirement represents the best of Cooper's vast song catalog.

"Cooper is the only singer I've worked with ever who got it right the first time!" says songwriter Burt Bacharach.

The engaging variety of musical styles will take you on a trip through the mind and eyes of Cooper Getschal - America's most under-exposed vocalist - who will use his singing gifts in ways that will delight everyone.

Or as Burt Reynolds says, "Cooper Getschal - he's the best!"

Cooper's show is 8 p.m. Saturday, April 24. All tickets are $20. To order, call (561) 575-2223 or (800) 445-1666. Or log on to www.jupitertheatre.org and click on "Box Office."
