Australian Acoustic Duo Takes The Stage In Gainesville 4/3

By:

After a celebrated collaboration with the Ahn Trio in 2009, The Kin return to Gainesville to headline their own performance Saturday, April 3 in the Squitieri Studio Theatre. Widely considered to be one of New York City's most promising up-and-coming acts, The Kin is fronted by brothers Isaac and Thorry Koren, who recognized their musical compatibility after writing and performing a song for their father's wedding.

The Kin's compassion for music and sharing of life experiences have captivated fans and media alike, including Billboard Magazine: "The Australian siblings have a radiant gift for songwriting and performing ... The Koren brothers' trump cards are their vocals and dual harmonies-unaffected and quietly passionate. Hearing their partnership is a humbling experience." Good Day New York described The Kin as "the most promising independent rock band in New York."

The Kin collaborated with the executive producer of their second album Rise and Fall, Philip Stephano, to establish the independent record label Aletheia Entertainment, through which they launched their third full-length album THE UPside on September 22, 2009. The band teamed up with acclaimed producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith) to record THE UPside in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Mixing was done by Nic Hard (The Bravery).

The brothers, each accomplished songwriters capable of playing multiple instruments, come together with a dynamic that can only be forged in blood to create a unique and audibly stunning experience.

With their magnetic stage presence, compassion and amazing live performances, The Kin have won the intense loyalty of thousands of fans across the U.S. and Australia. As for the Gainesville audience, it's only a matter of time.

University of Florida Performing Arts does more than entertain. It breaks down walls. It breaks down the walls between people by increasing cultural awareness through programming that attracts artists and audiences from around the globe. It breaks down the wall between patron and performer with educational programs such as master classes, artist residencies and pre- and post-performance discussions. It breaks down the wall between health and illness with AIM Together, a collaborative program between UFPA and Shands HealthCare that brings world-class performing artists to those who are hospitalized. It breaks down the wall between idea and realization by commissioning and nurturing new work. Art doesn't have walls. But sometimes life does. UFPA breaks down the walls, enriching the lives of the citizens in the Heart of Florida, helping to make Gainesville "the #1 place to live."
