Auditions - Rodgers & Hammerstein's 'The King And I'
The Pembroke Pines Theatre of The Performing Arts recently had a fine success with their production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Their next show to be presented is another Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, THE KING AND I.
Created as a vehicle for the original Mrs. Anna, Gertrude Lawrence, THE KING AND I has become known as the centerpiece of Yul Brenner's career, for his powerful performance as the King. He won a Best Supporting Tony Award for his performance. In the subsequent film version, he received the Best Actor Oscar for playing the king Of Siam.
THE KING AND I is filled with Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpices such as 'Whistle A Happy Tune,' 'Getting To Know You,' 'Something Wonderful,' 'Hello Young Lovers,' and the showstopping 'Shall We Dance.'
Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
