ArtServe to Host Fun-Raiser For GIRL NOTICED ImageOn Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 7pm, ArtServe will be hosting a "Fun-Raiser" for GIRL NOTICED. Providing the entertainment for the evening is award-winning vocalist Marissa Mulder, returning to South Florida for this special benefit. She will be accompanied by Thomas Regis on piano.

ARISSA MULDER is a multi-award winning vocalist & a rising star forging a legacy of profound & inspiring live concert experiences. Moving to New York City in 2007, from Syracuse, NY, Marissa has become one of the most successful young cabaret artists on the Manhattan scene. In 2011, she beat out 60 other singers to win the MetroStar Challenge at the Metropolitan Room, an American Idol-type contest for up & coming cabaret artists. Since then, she has performed in several shows, with Stephen Holden of the New York Times calling her show, Tom...In His Words, the songs of Tom Waits, "Far away, the season's best show, everything the genre can be but almost never is!" She is the winner of the 2013 Noel Coward & Julie Wilson Awards, which were presented to her at Lincoln Center, where she performed. She was the winner of the 2014 MAC Award for Major Artist & Album of the Year (Tom...In His Words) & also won the 2014 Bistro Award for Vocalist of the Year. Time Out NY named Marissa, "Rising Star of the Year" in 2013 & has continued to call her "one of the biggest breakout successes of the past five years." Marissa was a featured guest on NPR's Piano Jazz, hosted by Jon Weber. In New York City, she has performed at The Carlyle, Lincoln Center, Town Hall, Carnegie Hall, The Algonquin Hotel, Metropolitan Room, 54 Below, Joe's Pub, Birdland & many others. She has taken her shows on the road to Dallas, St. Louis, Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester & Binghamton. Her latest show, Marilyn in Fragments, earned a rave review from the New York Times who said, "The rising cabaret singer Marissa Mulder wove passages from Monroe's diaries & 20 songs into a compelling portrait of the star in a confessional mood...a remarkable performance!" She has two CD's available for purchase Tom...In His Words & Illusions, both available on iTUNES, CDbaby.com & Amazon. www.marissasings.com

GIRL NOTICED is a Nationwide Mural Project, building & maintaining a world better informed about the positive impact the simple act of "Noticing" a girl has. GIRL NOTICED makes the bold statement that it is a community's responsibility to yield to the greatness in every girl. The aim of this program is to bring attention & awareness to the important role females play in our society. It all starts with local communities nominating girls & women as candidates to be "Noticed" for their talent, intelligence & character. Nominations cover a wide spectrum, ranging from personal struggles to momentous achievements. An individual is then selected from the list of candidates & recognized in a unique & compelling way. The girl's image is drawn in charcoal, along with the words "Notice Me," on a large exterior wall. The brief lifespan of these charcoal images are at the mercy of weather conditions & time. It becomes clear that the temporary mural has a permanent message. A different medium, paint, may also be used in some of the murals & over time, these will be erased or replaced as well. For a girl unnoticed, being recognized like this is a powerful declaration on many levels. The larger objective of communicating the message behind the message is that there is a very limited window of time to "Notice" the mural, the girl & what she values most in herself. By design, this rapidly disappearing message creates a sense of urgency in a local community & that is, to see & be impacted in an enduring way by a big & bold statement that is in contrast, short-lived & impermanent. This metaphor conveys a powerful lesson of what can happen to a girl who may never fully grow into her fullest potential if family members, mentors, friends & society don't Pause, Acknowledge & Appreciate her. Artist & Activist, LORI PRATICO, plans to travel through all 50 states to erect these large exterior murals. Photographs will be taken during the creation of each mural, leading up to the eventual publication of a book about the Girls Noticed & the overall project. girlnoticed.com
