Photo Flash: First Look At City Theater's THE PRODUCERS

By:

The City Theater in Biddeford's summer musical is the Tony award winning, over-the-top satire, and irreverent Mel Brooks Comedy The Producers! The show opened July 20th and runs through August 5th Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at City Theater's historic opera house, 205 Main St. in Biddeford.

Get a first look at the cast in action below!

Based on the hit 1968 film of the same name, this Mel Brooks smash hit follows the hilarious adventures of washed-up Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his mild-mannered accountant, Leo Bloom, as they scheme to get rich quick by producing the most notorious flop in Broadway history! "Step one: Find the worst play ever written. Step 2: Hire the worst director in town: Step 3: Raise two million dollars". What could go wrong?! THE PRODUCERS won a record setting twelve Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Musical Score. The score includes such hits as "I Wanna Be a Producer", "When You Got It, Flaunt It", "Springtime for Hitler", and "Prisoners of Love".

Director, Linda Sturdivant, music director Rebekkah Willey and choreographer Mariel Roy have assembled a talented cast of local actors. Brian McAloon (Old Orchard Beach) and Miles Gervais of (Kennebunk) play the washed-up producer Max Bialystock and the mild-mannered accountant Leopold Bloom; Elizabeth Lester (Saco) is the sexy Swedish secretary Ulla. Michael Donovan (South Portland) is Roger De Bris, the flamboyant Broadway director and Tommy Waltz (Portland) is his "common law assistant" Carmen Ghia. Caleb Lacy (Gorham) is Franz Leibkind, who has written the "sure fire flop" Springtime for Hitler; The hard-working ensemble cast includes: Gaia Ayres (Saco); Andrew Bennington (S. Berwick); Briana Chu (Alfred); Nina Finocchiarro (Saco); Braden Foley (Dayton); Kaliegh Hunter (Saco); Carol Jones (Biddeford); Jay W. Jones (Biddeford); Andrew Lamb (Springvale); Alison Laughlin (Freeport); Logan Merrithew (Westbrook); Mark Nahorney (Biddeford); Valerie Nahorney (Biddeford); Danielle Robichaud (town); Caleb Streadwick (town); Aislin Travis (town); Lauren Tudor (Scarborough); Schyuler White (Kennebunk); Ann Williams (Old Orchard Beach); and Tad Williams (Biddeford).

The Producers runs three weekends: July 20 - August 5. Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30. Sunday matinees at 2:00. Tickets are $20 and can purchased by calling (207) 282-0849, online at www.citytheater.org, or through the Heart of Biddeford. (Note: There is no performance on Sunday, July 22.)
