The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that it has received two Independent Reviewers of New England Award (IRNE) Nominations for its glorious 2009 production of the joyous musical, Singin' in the Rain. Nominations were received for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, Jon Peterson and Best Choreography, Jayme McDaniel. "To stage the largest musical in our history, complete with real rain on our stage, took a tremendous team effort and we are just delighted that our good friends Jon and Jayme have been recognized for their wonderful work in our production of Singin' in the Rain," exclaimed Bradford Kenney, Executive Artistic Director.

Singin' in the Rain was the largest show ever mounted by the Ogunquit Playhouse in its 78 year history! The multi-talented and highly acclaimed director and choreographer, Jayme McDaniel stated when given the opportunity to direct and choreograph the stage version of the beloved musical, "I couldn't imagine doing it without playing homage to the genius that was Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen." Upon hearing the news of his nomination McDaniel exclaimed, "It was a truly fantastic production with a marvelous cast and crew, and wonderfully produced by Brad Kenney and the tireless Ogunquit Playhouse staff... I'm honestly thrilled to be nominated."

Jon Peterson's many credits include the Broadway production of Cabaret, a recent Drama Desk Award nomination for his performance in George M! and the 2006 Ogunquit Playhouse production of the critically acclaimed Cabaret. Peterson's portrayal of Cosmo Brown in the Ogunquit production of Singin' in the Rain earned glowing reviews. When Jon received the news of his nomination he exclaimed, "I'm really happy about it, especially because it was such a scrumptious cast and I bet it was because everyone was so good and also so lovely that good performances were simply an inevitable bi-product!"

The Ogunquit Playhouse recently expanded from a 10-week summer season to a three-season, true regional theatre format, making these types of nominations possible. Last year was the first time the Playhouse was recognized by IRNE for their production of the American Masterpiece, My Fair Lady.

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards were founded by Beverly Creasey of the Journal Newspapers and Larry Stark of Theater Mirror in 1997. The IRNE Awards recognize the extraordinary wealth of talent in the Boston and New England theatre community. The Independent Reviewers of New England Awards (IRNE'S) will take place on Monday, April 6, 2010, at 7:30pm at the Boston Center for the Arts.
