Ogunquit Playhouse Announces ASL Performance Date for MAMMA MIA!

Mamma Mia!, now on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse, will be offered to the deaf community with American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters during the Tuesday, June 27, 8PM regularly scheduled performance. This hilarious musical comedy is receiving rave reviews from audiences and critics alike for its spectacular dance numbers, colorful costumes and touching story. Assistive Listening Devices are always available at the Ogunquit Playhouse so patrons in need can enjoy each show.

Joining the Ogunquit Playhouse to sign the ASL show are Meryl C. S. Troop, and Elaine Williams. Ms. Troop is president of the Maine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and has won numerous awards for her work as an interpreter, including the Dedicated Service Award from Department of Health and Human Services and the Excellence in Interpreting award from the Maine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Ms. Williams is a freelance interpreter working in community and education settings, and has interpreted for many arts programs including the annual Maine Deaf Film Festival, at Portland Players and Lyric Music Theater, and for performances of the Maine Gay Men's Chorus.

The international hit sensation Mamma Mia! runs through July 1, 2017. Over sixty million people from around the globe have fallen in love with the characters, the enchanting story and ABBA's timeless music that makes Mamma Mia! the ultimate feel-good show! This sunny, funny show unfolds on a Greek island paradise when on the eve of her wedding a young woman's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited twenty years ago. Non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers, along with the magic of ABBA's timeless hit songs that include "Super Trouper," "Dancing Queen," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "Take a Chance on Me," "Thank You for the Music," "Money, Money, Money," "The Winner Takes It All," and "SOS," combine to make this enchanting show a trip down the aisle you'll never forget!

The Ogunquit Playhouse's milestone season runs from May 17 to October 29 and features the American and the world premieres of two brand-new musicals, From Here to Eternity and Heartbreak Hotel. Rounding out the 2017 season are Bullets Over Broadway, the delightful and hilarious musical based on the acclaimed Woody Allen film, and Ragtime, one of the most powerful musicals ever adapted for the stage. The season will stretch to the holidays once again with the return of the hit show White Christmas in collaboration with The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
