Recent European prize winner Alexander Sitkovetsky returns to Madison for an encore performance of Barber’s effervescent Violin Concerto. We open with Irish composer Joan Trimble’s ethereal Suite for Strings from 1955, the perfect complement to Swedish composer Lars Erik Larsson’s popular Pastorale. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in B flat major, like his sixth symphony, celebrates the joy, fullness and robust qualities of life. With its driving finale it always packs a punch.
