Walden Theatre Announces 2010 Summer Camps

By:

Summer camp registration is underway now at Walden Theatre for the popular Summer Academy, Art Camps, Imagination Workshops and Teen Acting Sessions. (Teen registration forms will be available soon.) Families returning to any of Walden's array of camps will find familiar offerings and trusted instructors, as well as a new imagination-based acting camp for children.

New this year, Walden is offering A Woodland Fantasy Workshop for ages 5-7. In this workshop, kids will create their own characters and stories using their imaginations, all while learning the basics of acting through games and activities under the guidance of Gina Theresa Cisto, the Art Education Associate with Blue Apple Players.

Returning is the popular Art Camp for ages 5-11 taught by Laura Patterson. In each session, students create original paintings, masks, paper mache, wood sculpture, and more. Patterson has taught art to children for over 20 years, and she also creates art and designs costumes for Actors Theatre of Louisville and Walden Theatre.

Walden's Summer Academy is athree-week-long acting camp where youngsters ages 8-13 work under individualized direction and attention on a production of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Students--novices and experienced young actors, together--get the experience of rehearsing and performing a play (complete with sets, props, and costumes) and at the end there are three shows for a public audience. Attendees receive a strong foundation in theatre arts and develop concentration, self reliance and cooperation, and have fun with new friends.

For young people ages 10-18 who have an interest in acting or just want to try something new in the summer, Walden's Acting and Musical Theatre Camps offer sessions on Improvisation, Playwriting, Audition Skills, Scene and Song Musical Theatre, and Stand-Up Comedy. These camps feature accomplished returning instructors Chris Anger, Hank Willenbrink, Sharon Kinnison, and Keith McGill, as well as recent Walden Theatre alumni.
